Pushing through discomfort with Mex White

I am very thrilled to share my engaging conversation with Mex White. He is very dedicated to his physical and mental fitness. During this inciting conversation my interest peaked from the minute he started to share the story of his journey with me. I was super excited to write this blog. These are some of the questions I asked him:

1. What inspired you to start personal training?

Mex started to work out with his dad to spend more time bonding with him. They kept this tradition alive for 10-15 years. His friends told him multiple times that he had really good workout skills, routine, discipline and talent. Later after some thought and hard decisions, Mex gave his whole heart to fitness.

2. How do you stay motivated during tough workouts?

Mex’s motto is keep pushing through. A tough workout is a challenge to see how you can handle difficult things in life. A solution that helps these tough workouts is to stay consistent and keep that same mindset throughout your hard workouts.

3. How do you motivate your clients to feel hyped up for a training session?

Mex uses the power of laughter and engaging conversations to energize and distract his clients from feeling scared about a specific workout. If that doesn’t work Mex will explain to the client that he feels the same way as his client.

4. What are the most common reasons people quit fitness and how do you motivate them to keep going?

Being fit is hard. Mex says that fitness is not just one day, one week, one month or one year of work. Fitness is a sport where you have to be dedicated and put all your effort and hard work into this sport. Mex explains to his clients that if you keep applying yourself and keeping your heart to this sport you will see results.

5. What life lessons did you learn during your own fitness journey and while training others?

Mex has learnt a lot in his time being a fitness trainer. When he was just expressing his interest in fitness he got to know more about himself. All those tough workouts taught him many important lessons. He also learned that just like life, fitness will also have setbacks but you have to keep pushing through.

6. What is your fitness routine?

Mex tends to keep his fitness schedule active unless he needs to rest or recover his body. His normal routine is to go to the gym 3 times a week or more and work out for 30-45 minutes at the max. This is showing dedication and consistency to the sport.

7. Many of your customers will come in with different goals. How do you manage different client expectations?

Mex has recently got a lot of new customers. Most of them don’t have a purpose of doing fitness because they don’t have the desire to push their bodies. Mex persuades his clients to push their bodies. One of his main strategies is listening. Mex will talk to his clients and understand the difficulties that is stopping the person to push outside their comfort zone.

8. How do you market yourself and acquire new clients?

Mex doesn’t market himself a lot on social media platforms. He is a person who likes the outdoors better which means he believes in meeting people, networking and getting to know them face to face.

9. What is your opinion about food and nutrition during a fitness journey?

Mex says that food and nutrition is the most important part of any sport, not just fitness. If you have a nice long workout and you fill your body with junk then there is no point of doing that workout. There has to be consistency with a diet. Mex says that healthy nutrition fills your body and gives your body more energy.

10. What advice would you give to me and many other people who would like to make a difference in the world?

Some advice Mex would give is, be the 1% out of the 99, be the person to say yes out of all the no’s. You have to stand out in life. And that is the only way to keep moving forward.

This was an awesome interview I had with Mex. I had a lot of new learnings from this conversation. My favorite thing that Mex said was “Never be normal, because anyone in this world can be normal”. That was one of the things that really stood out to me. I would really like to thank Mex for taking out time to talk to me. I really hope you enjoy this discussion as much as I enjoyed talking to Mex.
